Revision

It takes over my life, though it's sort of to be expected. I don't mind the time so much - it's the pain of the actual work! The sun decides to rule the sky just at the time when I can barely afford an hours break. The best thing over the past few weeks has been working up at Lukesland and escaping onto the moors. Ten Tors today -im sure they were all very happy but it doesn't convince me!!

Searching for voluntary work -some progress there! Charity shop/working on coast paths. I know which one people would prefer I did but I'm looking at ease of access as well as worthwilage. I'd rather be in a shop talking to people than moping around building bridges!

This is a method of procrastination but I can't take much more revision! Role on school...though exams start next wednesday with R.S - the joys...

The corps apparated in perfect synchronisation to their designated action points. Harry landed in a crouch, unaffected by the disorientation apparation usually causes. Ahead he could see the conflict allready beginning as Auror met Cult member in a whirl of hexes and curses.

Ron was to his right with Neville, Hermione and Ginny behind.

"We're too late for this area, redirect to their headquarters," Harry ordered. He had grown accustomed to ordering his freinds around, though he still felt bad about being head of the cell instead of Ron. In a moment, he disapparated.

This time he hit the ground running, firing curses to the left and right. They'd landed in perfect formation -Nevill and Ron to his left and right with the girls behind. This would be the case untill they got right into the thick of fighting.

"Expelliarmus, Accio, Reducto, Stupefy," he bellowed, destroying the wand and stunning a Lethifold Priest caught off guard.

"Diffindo," came a hiss from behind. Five more priests fell to Ginny's slicing curse, decapitated.

Revision: Day3

Day 2 invloved working up the road so doesn't count. I still got about 3 hours of revision done+ordered revision guides! Today got 5 hours though I skived of English lit. I'm now thinking of changing History to French/Spanish at DHSG for ye old A levels.

Wrock collection is now in very good condition - album art, genre, artist etc. I even used windows media player to sync to my phone!! Aren't I clever... Only problem now is that I have no acceptable music...if anyone asks it's either the OC or Wizard Rock...ah well most people think im a tad weird anyway :)

And off to tomorrow...

Revision: Day 1

For lots of people, the fifth of April 2008 laregely consisted of either making a small fortune or losing a fair bit of money on the grand national. The only time I've ever properly betted on a horse race was at a point to point - I won around £20!! Today we just did a small family sweepstakes: maximum takings were £3.

For me, today was the first day in a five-hour-a-day revision plan, sponsored by Wizard Rock! I survived and kept on schedule, which included clarinet practice. The rest of the day belongs to me!!

The wrockwiki is looking good - I'm thinking of contributing to their article base, though the majority of what I added last night has been removed...better luck next time hopefully! Perhaps my account has been downgraded or summat.

Ubuntu

I spent ages attempting to get ubuntu to connect to the internets then another ages installing it to USB. And now it's 10.00 and I've got next to nothing done-epic fail.

Then again stumbling has cheered me up. It's just that my nice revision timetable has just discovered the meaning of the word 'history.' Over the past few days I've been experimenting with various other browsers and the 'cube' effect. They all failed of course...the problem with 3D browsers is that no-one wants 3dness. Quite frankly, it eats ram and doubles the time it takes to get anything done. I'm all for eye-candy, but not pointless candy...that's like eating sweets without being able to taste them.

Ah well, sooner or later I'll force myself to get back to the less solitary pastimes such as snailing, msning and writing. At least I got this post in...that's a start!!

Stumbling and Spanishing

I learnt another topic...then stumbled a for an hour I learnt my french presentation...then stumbled for an hour. I found the Lord of the Flies ebook...then stumbled for an hour. Stumbling RULEZ!!!

Catchup....REVISION!!

So, over a week since my last post and here I am again, quarter past 11 and typing away. Schools been as usual recently though its gettiing frantic where systems and controll is concerned-my circuit is fail :(

Linux for the win!! I'll hopefully have ubuntu installed this time tomorrow. I tried out KDE pendrive linux, which was cool but also very irritating as it died after a few days of usage and I could not access the hard drives with it.

How to customize bookmarks toolbar favicons: (firefox)
1. Find the site you want to bookmark and copy the URL.
2. Use google images to find the favicon you want to use (best to use small image search) and go to 'see image on its own' or 'see full size image.'
3. On the page that comes up the favicon will be in the address bar - drag it to your bookmarks toolbar and refresh the page
4. Right click on the new bookmark, go to properties and change the destination url to the one you copied earlier. You may also want to rename it.
5. (optional step) use this chrome edit (found it on google) to show just the favicons:

@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
#bookmarks-ptf toolbarbutton:not([container="true"]) label {
display: none !important;
}
#bookmarks-ptf toolbarbutton:not([container="true"]):hover label {
display: block !important;
}

I discovered stumbleupon last night - it is so unbelievably awesome!! I though it'd be like digg but it's so much better - of the first 10 sites I 'stumbled upon' I bookmarked 7 of them cause they're too good to take in in one go. Really worth checking out...

I resurrected the Lethifold Cult but didn't get too far. Hopefully write some more this weekend, though now with my revision timetable thats gonna be tricky :( bloomin GCSE's

More tomorrow but I gtg sleep!

ill...london and liverpewl

After reconnecting to the internets after 4 nights away i discovered just under 2000 feeds to read...luckily 900 were from snails so i could delete all of them...ended up doing the same to digg.

Half term was great-saw lots of relatives, including the two baby cousins (who weren't scared of me :) lots of driving, made a snazzy video and a wrock medley, though that still needs some work.

I now own a fully-legal copy of the download manager 'getright' it was almost completely free, using the trialpay service. I chose the ebay offer, and then bought and ebook for 13p...though it was in dollars so cost me £1.50 conversion :( however it was worth it-£1.63 for something thats usually around £20!! It's really useful-especially for monitoring bandwidth usage. I'm now trying to get roboform but the link keeps failing.

I've been off ill today...recovered and I'm glad I took the day off but feel a bit of a bum.

Drying up calls....

Swimming and Spanish

That darn language seems to figure far too much in these posts. But it's the only work I've done all day unless you count watching jimmyr's torrent video and pointlessly following tips and tweaks to speed up xp. Ooh and trying to get vmware player to work on laptop...

I got this timer thing in a vague attempt to get a better ratio of work to play but it's not gonna happen yet :( its hard working when you're 2 clicks away from the wonders of the web.

This scribefire thing is great though! Saves having to go onto blogger to update-all done from any site whatsoever. Some other add-ons I got last night include flashbloker, imglikeopera and script blocker. This is in a vague attempt to save bandwidth but its a pain in the arse to have to keep enabling scripts...why do people insist on using so much java??!!

Just searched for 'pimp firefox' and one of the pages involves that game where 22 idiots kick a piece of leather up and down an empty space...ooh that was scathing. The game football is ok so long as it's not taken too seriously (i.e. violence, watch every match of every team, stupidly large salaries etc) I could do with joining a football team but it just feels so pointless. Anti-social laptop time all the way!!

Saturday of Speaking Questions

Right now I'm just getting down to some french spanish cause that's my first exam.

Several hours later and its done...all 12 questions or whatever. It took an age to get started but I'm finally done with the first topic, only 3 to go...Then french then systems coursework then music composition. At least I've made a start!!

Still haven't found a solution to my sku111.cab error every time I start up office :( it's a right pain in the arse...Hopefully protonic.com can help me out somewhat as I do not want to take it to the college IT department.

Might be off up the beacon in a minute. At least I've cleaned up the firefox context menu so that it doesn't crash whenever I right click!

Parents Evening=LOTFlies

Yup, basically every teacher talked about how we needed to 'button down' and get some revision done. English teacher has got dad telling me to read lord of the flies every time he sees me (frequently!) and Bio teacher talked millions about revision 'techniques.' Apparently staring at the book doesn't count...strange seeing as that got me some decent marks in my modules.

Laptop died just as I'd got the vista customization perfect :( so now it's back to ye old xp, I'm just grateful that it's stable. At least prism is nice and sparkly at the moment! Ooh apparently meebo isn't working...

That'll have to do (3 hours later!) Just spent an age pimping gmail.

College depression

What a shock it was last night to remember that I had college today...ah well its over now and none till after half term!! Made a bit more progress-cut up piece of metal with the lathe.

Just copied a ton of wrock to my phone-the greatest music of all time :) and now I'm installing LOTRBFME2. The sidebar I got yesterday is brilliant-Ive just got 4 prism icons for gmail, facebook, meebo and google reader but it looks shiny. Prism isn't really that great-just a firefox window without the navigation bars but there you go. Asides from that the day hasn't really begun yet, hopefully do something tomorrow with will though.

I really should perhaps start on some proper GCSE revision today but it's hard getting down to it even though its not that bad once I've started.

Composition started!

And I actually managed to arrive at my clarinet lesson within 10 mins of when I was supposed to! Thank gawd for that. And now I reckon that I can have my music composition done tres rapido. Grade 8 round the corner though...scales scales scales pieces scales scales aural scales sight reading scales scales scales. etc

Downloaded what I thought was mozilla prism earlier but its not...actualy I have no idea what it is. Anyway I'lll get it in school tomorrow.

Played at church for the old-people's home today...interesting but I don't think it was the best performance, also a bit awkward at the end where we were just standing in their canteen area whilst they were munching away.

Gave friend my notes on manual handling, even though he should have taken his own. In return I have ROTK extended edition over the weeked! :)

Anyway college+clarinet = late night so that'll be all for today.

Wednesday, 30 January 2008

Wednesday is work day

Yeah, 2 languages in one day is waaay too much! French assistant was slightly better, perhaps cause my french was slightly better. And I managed to survive Spanish.

Yesterday I managed to get laptop online at school!! Tis great cause I can download freely for an hour. Only 3 more college theory lessons left! Manual handling is teh failage. Boxing in PE was great!If you get angry enough with the punchbag exercise actually becomes fun :) I suppose the novelty wears off after a while though so I won't be getting one myself.

Protonic.com apparently was on some TV program so I just went on to help them cope with several hundred questions they've received since then. I feel very ignorant looking at the list of problems.

Why is it always spanish?

So tomorrow I've got college...on wed I have Spanish! AAARGH speaking homework. Less than 200mb of the extra 1gb left :~ cant wait till thur but I'm worried that I'll download it all in one go.

Today was fine...making some progress in systems but the program doesn't seem to work :(
Also yesterday...not much but we went up the beacon which was nice...bit of an anticlimax after burns evening! Then again a day with the laptop is always a day well spent.

I'm sitting in Lucie's room atm - on zans exercise ball which forces me to sit up straight-quite good really though its getting kinda exhausting. Had a long convo with Zan yesterday-she's just had her nose pierced! Seems to be having fun at uni...I think that I'll take further maths cause I'll need it to go into engineering.

Must write some more of the book but that'll have to wait as I'm teaching in 5mins and have 7 funnies (emails) to read.

Update:
Apparently I actually didn't write the post that I thought that I'd written. Burns evening on sat was great-up at Lukesland. Haggis was really nice-first year that I've properly enjoyed the thing...just so long as no-one tells me what it actually is! "There are some things that will never look appetising - for everything else there's haggis! Scottish dancing was actually quite fun **shock horror** though a tad to much seasoned whiskey going around! And they say that us youths are always getting drunk! Me and Katharine were sitting on the side making critical comments about how under-the-influence the grown-ups were :)

Report Day

Interesting news on the way to school (I'd seen the headline on digg feed yesterday) american scientists have sort of 'created life' in a bacteria cell. Quite snazzy really.

Subscription to support alert has been awesome-I now run my entire windows desktop from the hard drive! Very shiny piece of software... Roboform recently downloaded but I'll install that later.

Spanish=blargh and 4x4 was utterly pointless and infuriating...I know electronics are my priority!!

French Madness

The french assistant is pure evil...I mean she asked my friend to say what there is to do in Plymouth which is impossible in English never mind french!! Managed to miss my french speaking practice as well...blargh

Got a look at the report...as things stand I'll make it into 6th form...now I have to decide what to do there.
Physics, Maths, Philosophy, Lit are all OK, but the decision is whether to do the Greek GCSE or Further Maths...which I'd need if I ever had a drunk moment and applied to Cambridge for engineering. The politics teacher is really good, and he's a communist which is awesome! So I'm stuck with wanting to do 6 A levels plus Greek and general studies AAARGH! I wonder what would happen if I did Greek and further maths?! Could be very interesting indeed...I think I could manage it so long as I said goodbye to my laptop life (yes laptop, not social)

Otherwise quite an ordinary day-train there and back, made survivable my a packet of Doritos on offer at Tesco's. In English she showed us how screwed we would be as far as timekeeping is concerned if we took the exam now...though someone managed to get full marks in the bloomin mock! Blargh is the word.

That'll do as I got the support alert newsleter today and I can't wait to read some of the articles!

-12% of download limit remaining!

Aunt's book on tv!

Just watched Kate on Richard and Judy - pretty amazing to be able to talk like that about your work. Now some actors are discussing it...not sure how many books they've read!
Anyway today was reasonably dull...managed to survive 30mins with the Spanish assistant! Wednesday fails big time...still 2 days to go. Then again easy compulsory R.S. lesson in which we watched Hotel Rwanda (shame on me if i spelt that wrong) so shocking...you can't really comprehend it. I am soo privileged to live here.

Still 7 days left of January and 7 days left of this download limit=hellish situation as I'm already 10% over! At least I'm wearing a new pair of contacts...just need to look after them now.

I started mugglecast 127 and now wish that I'd downloaded Year In the Life Of JK Rowling cause then I could have sent it to them and they'd be really pleased...ah well you can't have everything and I'd be in biiig trouble if I'd downloaded it then anyway. Luckily we recorded R & J so no one has to watch it online.

And that's it for today...retarded underlinings

Tuesday, 22 January 2008

6months ago I was still reading Deathly Hallows!

Oh the joys of school and all that...listening to mugglecast 126 on the way home from school-I've really got a lot of catching up to do there (128 released on sun).

A while back I discovered meebo.com - revolutionary messaging service and all within firefox. Thanks to a ton of jimmyr.com tutorials firefox has never looked so good.

Also thanks to jimmyr, I've got into video editing with open source software (audacity, virtualdub etc) Not much luck trying to dubb over Alastor Moody-this could be something to do with the laptop though. However I did make a video 'If the Universe Ran Windows.'

Lat friday laptop scared the life out of me-after runing easycleaner a load of messages popped up demanding that I reinstall windows...thankfully I managed to save it with 'restore files' and the recycle bin.

The amazonians are still together, and they keep me going through thick and thin ('thick' being school and associated issues 'thin' being writing and discovering some kinda new free software)

That'll do for now...ciao!
